SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a required exam for admission to U.S. universities and colleges. It is designed for students with an English proficiency level of at least Upper-Intermediate.

You can find specific information about the required exams for a particular institution directly on the college or university’s official website.

Purpose: The SAT evaluates a student’s readiness for college by testing their knowledge and skills in subjects taught in school.

Scoring: Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200 to 800 points, with a total score range of 400 to 1600 points.


Test Results: Results are typically available 10–15 days after the exam (though this may vary slightly depending on the test date).


Test Duration: The SAT lasts approximately 3 hours, with an additional 50 minutes if you choose to complete the optional essay section.

The SAT exam is designed to assess a student’s readiness for college. It consists of the following sections:

1. Critical Reading

  • What It Tests: Students answer questions based on passages from a variety of subjects, including sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
  • Skills Required: Analyze texts, understand structure, and identify stylistic features.
  • Format: All questions are multiple-choice.

2. Writing and Language

  • What It Tests: This section evaluates knowledge of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and style.
  • Tasks: Students are required to improve and edit written passages by selecting the correct answer from four options.
  • Format: All questions are multiple-choice.

3. Mathematics

  • What It Tests: Topics include algebra, geometry, and basic statistics.
  • Format: The Math section is divided into two parts:
    • Calculator-Allowed Section
    • No-Calculator Section
  • Note: The Math section is often considered manageable for Ukrainian students due to their strong foundation in math education.

4. Essay (Optional)

  • What It Tests: The essay requires students to analyze a given passage and explain how the author uses evidence, reasoning, and stylistic techniques to build their argument.
  • Format: This section is optional and only required if your target university requests it.

The SAT registration fee is $68.


For international students:
The base SAT registration fee is $68 plus an international fee of $43, totaling $111.

Change test center: $29

Cancel registration: $29 (by change deadline), $39 (after change deadline)

Additional score reports: $14 per report (first 4 are free if ordered within 9 days after the test).

In India

SAT with Essay: $117 (approximately INR 9,675)

SAT Subject Tests: $111 (approximately INR 9,179)

The registration fee for the SAT is $60 (approximately INR 4,970), with an additional international fee of $43 (approximately INR 3,562), bringing the total cost for the SAT without essay to $103
