IELTS

We are an Exam Prep Centre since 2011

95% of our students have been successfully admitted to Ivy League universities.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is one of the world’s most popular English language tests for study, work, and migration.

Its results are accepted by over 9,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional associations, and governments in 135 countries.

Maximum Score: The IELTS test is scored on a scale from 1.0 to 9.0, with 9.0 being the highest possible score.

Where to Take the Test: The British Council is one of the most trusted providers of IELTS exams, offering both computer-based and paper-based formats. However, other providers like IDP also offer valid options.

Student Success: Many of our students achieve 7.5 points and above, thanks to our proven preparation methods.

Certificate Validity: The IELTS certificate is valid for 2 years from the test date, recognized by most institutions and employers worldwide.

For Employers: If you need the certificate for work, make sure it is still valid. Expired certificates often require retesting.

For University Applications: International universities usually require “fresh” certificates issued within the last two years.

It’s best to take the test close to your application date and aim for the highest possible score.

  • The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are conducted consecutively on the same day, with no breaks. The total testing time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
  • The Speaking test may be scheduled on the same day or up to 7 days before or after the other sections, depending on your test center.

Listening (40 minutes)

  • Format: Four recordings, including monologues and dialogues by native speakers.
  • Skills Tested: Understanding detailed information, following ideas, and recognizing various English accents.
  • Important Note: You’ll hear each recording only once.

Reading (60 minutes)

  • Number of Questions: 40
  • Skills Tested: Skimming, scanning, understanding main ideas, and interpreting details.
  • Content:
    • Academic Module: Three long texts from books, magazines, newspapers, or journals, relevant to higher education.
    • General Training Module: Shorter passages from practical sources like advertisements, instruction manuals, or handbooks.

Writing (60 minutes)

  • Tasks:
    • Task 1:
      • Academic Module: Write a summary (minimum 150 words) based on a chart, graph, table, or diagram.
      • General Training Module: Write a formal, semi-formal, or informal letter based on a given situation.
    • Task 2 (Essay): Write a 250-word essay expressing your viewpoint on a given topic or problem.

Speaking (11–14 minutes)

  • Format: Conducted face-to-face with an examiner.
  • Sections:
    • Introduction and Interview: General questions about yourself, your home, work, or studies.
    • Cue Card Task: Speak for 1–2 minutes on a specific topic provided by the examiner.
    • Discussion: Answer further questions related to the cue card topic.
  • Note: All answers are recorded for evaluation.

Writing Tips

  • Write at least the required word count (150 for Task 1, 250 for Task 2), but avoid excessive writing.
  • Use your draft only for organizing ideas, not rewriting the entire text.
  • Address every part of the question with a variety of vocabulary and grammar structures.

Reading Tips

  • Time Management: Don’t spend too long on any one question.
  • Follow instructions carefully to avoid mistakes, especially in True/False/Not Given tasks.
  • Stick to the word limit for answers, as exceeding it lowers your score.
  • Master skimming and scanning techniques to locate key information quickly.

Speaking Tips

  • Stay confident and treat the examiner like a friendly conversation partner.
  • Speak fluently, using linking words to connect your thoughts.
  • Simplify your sentences if unsure about complex grammar to avoid errors.
