The ACT (American College Testing Assessment) is a U.S. exam that serves as an alternative to the SAT.

Introduced in 1959, the ACT is commonly taken by applicants from the southern and northwestern regions of the United States who are seeking admission to high schools and colleges.

The ACT total score is calculated as the average of all section scores, each ranging from 1 to 36, excluding the Writing section.

The Writing section is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12 points.

Mathematics

  • Questions: 40
  • Focus: Involves reading four passages across topics like prose fiction, social science, humanities, and natural science. Students answer 10 questions per passage.
